A violin by Laberte-Humbert

Early 20th century | France

A great condition first part 20 century French violin. Very attractive visually and offering deep, sweet and dark sound. Crafted very elegantly and carefully. This violin was made by Laberte-Humbert– well known and recognized French manufacture. It can be seen in catalogues of Laberte Humbert from the beginning of 20 century.

This is based on a small pattern of Amati violins that he made in 1630s till 1650s.

Top plate made of fine grained spruce, back plate made of beautiful two-piece board flamed maple, with very dense flames. The flames of on the back plate are tight and consistent. The ribs and neck are nicely matched to the back, indicating a high-level “tonewood” selection. Pegs are made of rosewood. Chinrest made of pear wood. Tailpiece made of tintul wood. Fingerboard made of ebony. Beautiful golden-amber and translucent varnish, that emphasizes attractive flames of the wood. Real genuine flames and elegantly inlaid purfling. Beautiful elegant Amati-type corners curving gracefully toward the center of the C-bout.

Inside there is a label that say:

“Nicolaus Amatus Cremonę / Hieronymi filii fecit. An 1651”

This violin has been restored by a  chairman of Polish Violin Makers Association Mr. Pielaszek. He is father or recent international star of violin making – Piotr Pielaszek, who has won many awards and whose violins reach 30+ thousand EUR. He put his properly adjusted bridge on this violin – signed Marek Pielaszek.

The violin is equipped with new strings: Larsen Tzigane (Medium). They offer smooth and saturated sound with excellent focus and projection. G, D and A strings are made using a multi-filament nylon core. The G and D strings are wound pure silver flat wire, the A string is aluminum. The E string is made of a carbon steel. These strings are used by e.g. Alina Pogostkina.
